How does homeopathy work with the body’s vital force?
Vital Force, Dynamis, Chi, Prana, Bioenergetic Force, Life Force….
Various forms of complementary medicine embrace these terms when referring to that special something that animates and maintains life. Homeopathy uses the term Vital Force to express the unique viable and curative qualities and mechanisms within each individual.
Thus Health is always the body’s responsibility, though we can create an enabling or inhibiting environment within. Cure depends on the body’s ability to respond to stimuli and heal itself.
Homeopathy’s healing potential is entirely dependent on the remedy’s ability to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms. This healing is, in turn, entirely dependent on the vital healing force of the individual. The dynamic of the body’s responses depends on its Vital Force.
Is it physical, mental, emotional?
The vital force represents both the physical and the metaphysical, both the healing mechanisms such as the immune system, endocrine system, etc. and the connection to life itself which includes the individual’s unique human spirit and willpower.
It rules the whole person– mind, body, and spirit. The vital force is an essential concept to understanding the painstakingly unique healing mechanism in each individual—the mechanism homeopathy interacts with to promote cure.
Does homeopathy work if vitality is low?
Yes. This might take more intricate work with low potencies and more frequent dosing. Plus, it might be more important to find the remedies that can best interact with the vital force and not just the acute symptoms being presented, i.e., an ideal time for a trained homeopath.
On Vital Force – Hahnemann Quotations:
Since the second edition of his Organon, Homeopathy’s founder, Dr Samuel Hahnemann began to elaborate more and more on his concept of the vital force as the element of the human being that the remedies can act upon to stimulate cure.
He refers to it in many contexts, often in awe of its power: It is the ‘dynamis’, the ‘healthy living instrument’; it is ‘spirit-like’, it ‘reigns in supreme sovereignty’; if ‘morbidly affected’ it ‘produces disease’, with the right remedy it ‘achieves victory over disease’; ‘it maintains the sensations and activities of all parts of the living organism in a harmony that obliges wonderment’, without it ‘the body dies’.
“Without the vital force the material organism is unable to feel, or act, or maintain itself, without the vital force the body dies…” (Organon, §10)
“In the healthy state, the spirit-like vital force (or dynamis), animating the material human organism reigns in supreme sovereignty. It maintains the sensations and activities of all parts of the living organism in a harmony that obliges wonderment” (Organon, §9)
“The reasoning spirit who inhabits the organism can thus freely use this healthy living instrument [the vital force] to reach the lofty goal of human existence.” (Organon, §9)
“The dynamic action of remedies on the vital force can restore health and harmony of life” (Organon, §16).
“Cure, which is the elimination of all the perceptible signs and symptoms of disease, means also the removal of the inner modifications of the vital force which underlie them. In this way the whole disease has been destroyed” (Organon, §17).
“It is certain that the vital forces (or dynamis) may achieve victory over disease without inflicting losses on the body, provided they are assisted and directed in their action by a properly selected homeopathic remedy”. (Chronic Diseases, Part 2)
